Saturday, June 14, from 12–3 pm, Douglass Park | JOIN US IN CELEBRATING 160 years since the news of the Emancipation Proclamation reached Galveston, Texas. Bring your family and friends to Douglass Park for summer fun and games, including music by local favorites Haki & Ther'Up. Y, R&B and Neo Soul/Funk bands, and Afro D. and the Global Soundwaves. Plus, DJ Silkie will be with us throughout the day's events! Activities include lawn games, bingo, dominoes, raffle prizes, and The Makerspace at Douglass Branch Library will be open for technology demonstrations! Visit with 50+ vendors and enjoy free icy treats! Presented in partnership with the Champaign Park District.

Time for Kids, Teens & All Ages to create something special!

STOP BY this summer to create something new in The Makerspace at Douglass Branch and in The Studio. Enjoy drop-in hours during the week for kids, teens, and all ages—plus open hours on weekends. We will kick off the summer with a week just for teens!

 

Summer Drop-in Hours for Club Fred in the NEW Makerspace at Douglass, Fridays from 1–3 pm. Teens and school-age children (with their caregiver or parent) are invited to stop by for activities, games, and crafts.

Saturday Drop-in Hours in the NEW Makerspace at Douglass – 1st & 3rd Saturdays, 12–3 pm. For all ages. (Starting June 7)

Teen Week in the Studio – June  2–6, 2–4 pm. Teens are invited to drop in and try something new. 
Kids in the Studio! – Wednesdays, 2–4 pm. School-age children are invited to stop by with their parent or caregiver for crafting. (June 11–July 30)
Teens in the Studio – Tuesdays and Thursdays, 2–4 pm. Middle and high school students, including fifth-grade graduates, are invited to drop by. (June 10–July 31)
Thursday Night Drop-in Hours in The Studio – Thursdays, drop in 5–7 pm. For all ages.

 
You can also Book-a-Librarian for one-on-one assistance or reserve equipment (like a Glowforge laser cutter, Cricut machine, or recording booth) for your visit.

This month, author and joyologist Heidi Esther will show you how to harness your emotional intelligence to enhance your writing (6/4), and award-winning mystery author Molly MacRae will lead a workshop on creating authentic and dynamic stories in "The Art of Storytelling" (6/18). Saturday, June 28, at 11 am, 1 pm, and 3 pm | WATCH AN EXCITING SHOW that takes ordinary bubbles into the realm of the extreme, and learn the science behind it. SUMMER IS A GREAT TIME to celebrate a love for reading. Kids, teens, and adults can win with the library’s Oceans of Possibilities! Summer Reading Challenge (through Aug 15). Our children's prizes include books, silly straws, and shark plushies. When teens read, they can win Champaign Park District passes, books, and coupons to local eateries. For adults, don't miss out on earning tickets towards a prize drawing for ocean-themed gift baskets (up to $330 value) with merchandise from local businesses, a Kindle Paperwhite, and more!
